The Digital Non-Profit Newsroom. Is this the Future of California Journalism?

November 15th, 2018

The Internet bombards us with an avalanche of non-stop information. How can newspapers compete with minute-by-minute news invading our homes?

Voice of OC is a leading showcase for the “New Journalism.” As traditional media struggle to compete and connect with readers, Voice of OC was born for the Internet with a bridge to traditional publications.

Join us Thursday, November 15, for a lively discussion of Journalism’s future with Norberto Santana, an experienced reporter/editor on the cutting edge of the news.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Norberto Santana, Jr. is the founding publisher of Voice of OC, the nonprofit digital newsroom. As publisher, Santana oversees all newsroom, engagement and fundraising operations and also writes a weekly Opinion column about Orange County government.

Before founding Voice of OC in 2009, Santana was a lead investigative reporter for the Orange County Register. He’s spent nearly two decades focusing on local governments across Southern California, previously as a staff writer with the San Diego Union Tribune and the San Bernardino County Sun.

Santana began his journalistic career in the early 1990s with Congressional Quarterly in Washington, D.C. covering the U.S. Congress. He has a master’s in Latin American Studies and has worked as an elections analyst on National Endowment for Democracy programs across Latin America. In 2017 and 2018, the Orange County Press Club recognized him as Orange County’s best columnist.
